Common Questions

What happens when there is no sunlight for many days?
The battery bank is sized to provide 1–3 days of autonomy even without solar generation. For longer monsoon periods, we recommend a diesel generator as a backup charger (connected to the battery via a charger, not the load), which you would use only rarely.
Can I run an air conditioner on an off-grid system?
Yes. We size the system accordingly. A 1.5-ton AC typically needs a 5 kW system with a 10 kWh battery to run for 8 hours daily. System size and cost increases significantly with AC load — we always recommend energy-efficient 5-star inverter ACs.
How long do the batteries last?
Lithium LiFePO4 batteries last 10–15 years (4000+ cycles at 80% DoD). Tubular lead-acid batteries last 5–7 years (1200–1500 cycles at 50% DoD). We recommend lithium for long-term savings despite higher upfront cost.
Is there any government subsidy for off-grid solar?
PM Surya Ghar Yojana subsidy applies only to On-Grid (grid-connected) systems. However, PM-KUSUM component-A supports off-grid solar pumps for farmers. For general off-grid homes and businesses, no central subsidy is currently available, but some states offer their own schemes.
What is the difference between Off-Grid and Hybrid?
Off-Grid has NO grid connection at all — it is 100% self-sufficient. Hybrid has BOTH battery storage AND grid connection — it uses batteries first, then grid, and can export excess to the grid. If your area has a grid connection and you mainly want backup power, Hybrid is usually a better choice.
Can I upgrade my off-grid system later?
Yes, within limits. You can add more solar panels if your charge controller and battery bank have headroom. Adding more battery capacity is usually straightforward. Major upgrades (different voltage system) require replacing core components. We design systems with future expansion in mind.
