A Hybrid Solar System connects to both the electricity grid and a battery bank. The hybrid inverter intelligently manages all three sources: solar panels, battery storage, and the grid — prioritizing solar, then battery, then grid.

During the day, solar powers your home. Excess charges the battery. If solar is insufficient, the battery kicks in. If the battery is also low, the grid supplies power. At night, the battery provides backup. When the battery is full and solar is excess, power is exported to the grid for net metering credits.

Unlike On-Grid systems, Hybrid systems work during power cuts — the battery seamlessly takes over. Unlike Off-Grid, you still have the grid as a fallback. It is the most flexible and future-ready solar option available.

Hybrid Solar FAQs

Does a hybrid system work during a power cut?
Yes — this is the main advantage of Hybrid over On-Grid. When the grid fails, the hybrid inverter automatically switches to battery power within milliseconds. Your appliances experience no interruption. The battery supplies power until either the grid returns or it is depleted.
How long does the battery backup last?
It depends on your load and battery size. A 4.8 kWh battery running a 500W load (lights, fans, TV) lasts about 8–10 hours. Running a 1.5-ton AC (1500W) from the same battery lasts about 3 hours. We size the battery bank based on your specific backup requirement.
Can I earn net metering credits with a hybrid system?
Yes. The hybrid system is still connected to the grid and has a net meter. When your battery is full and solar is producing excess, that power is exported to the grid and earns you credits — exactly like an On-Grid system.
Is the hybrid system eligible for PM Surya Ghar subsidy?
Yes. The PM Surya Ghar Yojana subsidy (up to ₹78,000) applies to all grid-connected solar systems including hybrid systems. The battery storage component does not affect subsidy eligibility for the solar panels.
How is Hybrid different from On-Grid and Off-Grid?
On-Grid: Connected to grid, no battery, shuts off in power cuts, lowest cost. Off-Grid: No grid connection, battery only, works anywhere but no net metering. Hybrid: Grid + battery, works during cuts, net metering enabled, most flexible but highest cost.
Can I add a hybrid system to my existing On-Grid installation?
Yes, with a compatible hybrid inverter upgrade. If your existing On-Grid inverter is battery-ready (AC-coupled compatible), we can add a battery and AC-coupled inverter. If not, the inverter needs to be replaced. We assess this during our free site survey.
